TURA:

Roads in Tura, as well as drains, are being dug up by private entities for business purposes leaving citizens to face difficulties when nature strikes.

The latest violation of government norms has been Reliance Jio which has erected a series of steel posts over drains on the side of the Kala Azar road of Chandmari which is the main thoroughfare for students going to schools and colleges.

The company has erected posts at multiple points of the road in Chandmari for expanding its fiber connectivity network in the area.

The company officials have been accused of undertaking the work without obtaining permission from either the Tura municipality or the PWD which maintains the roads of the town, to set up structures on parts where the drains exist for rainwater to flow out.

The K A Road development Committee has strongly objected to these works for violations and have also complained to the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Jagdish Chelani.

When contacted, Chelani said that he had received a complaint from the development committee and assured to take necessary steps for its removal from the drain area.

It is worth mentioning that in view of the poor drainage in the locality rain water accumulates onto the roads in large pools causing inconvenience to pedestrians and motorists alike.

Hundreds of students going to Don Bosco School and College face immense difficulties during the rains while trying to navigate through this waterlogged road.
